Dentistry Excellence at Ural State Medical University
The Faculty of Dentistry of the Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute was opened on August 6, 1976 (order of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education).
Students and doctors are trained in well-equipped classrooms, treatment rooms, phantom classrooms, on new diagnostic equipment using modern technologies and the experience of both Russian and foreign colleagues from Germany, France, Holland, the USA, Canada, and China. An international training center for dentistry has been established at USMU. All classrooms are equipped with a set of equipment for multimedia presentations, demonstrations of educational films. A single network with Internet access allows real-time remote teleconferences with a demonstration of clinical admission of patients. The bases of the USMU Faculty of Dentistry are often used to hold professional skill competitions at the regional, Russian and international levels. Students of the Faculty of Dentistry actively participate in research work, in extracurricular activities, winning prizes at competitions, festivals of Russian and international level. Students regularly undergo international internships in countries near and far abroad. Every year among the students of the faculty there are scholarship holders of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation, the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region.
The demand for graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry USMU is 100%. Graduates work in Yekaterinburg, the Ural region, Moscow, St. Petersburg, countries of the near and far abroad in dental institutions of various forms of ownership: both private and public. We have repeatedly received positive feedback from employers. In the city of Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region, more than 80% of dentists are graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Ural State Medical University, who work as dentists, heads of departments, chief doctors. Most of the employees of the profile departments of USMU are also graduates of the faculty; many of them are candidates, doctors of medical sciences.
Introduction of new forms and methods of teaching, means of activating the cognitive activity of students
Simulation (simulation) training – at the specialized departments of the Faculty of Dentistry, simulators are used – phantoms, dummies, combined into a single unit with a dental unit, which serve as manual skills simulators for students.
Interactive technologies – computer programs are used in training – tooth color determination (VITA Easy Shade), tooth preparation (Simodont//Moog), structural modeling (CEREC//Sirona), periodontal diagnostics (Florida Probe), computed tomography (Galileos, Picasso, Leonardo ), virtual movement of the jaws, prediction of the results of orthodontic surgical treatment with 3D visualization (Dolphin), diagnostics of the biocompatibility of filling, structural materials and personal oral hygiene products (Diadens PC).
Broadcasting opportunities: webinars, teleconferences, video broadcasts, online consulting, and distance learning for large and small audiences. In specialized departments, dental equipment is equipped with modern imaging systems in dentistry (A-dec simulators with intraoral cameras, Carl Zeiss endodontic microscopes with integrated video cameras, dental offices with a multimedia demonstration of consultation and treatment).
Competitions of professional skills among students have been a tradition at USMU since 2006. Students of dental faculties of Russian universities take part in the competitions: A.I. Evdokimova (Moscow), KSMU (Kazan), ASMU (Barnaul), PSMU. ak. E.A. Wagner (Perm), OGMU (Omsk), Tyumen State Medical University (Tyumen), YuUGMU (Chelyabinsk), USMU (Yekaterinburg).
Innovative pedagogical technologies – all teachers of the faculty were trained in the framework of additional educational programs “Teacher of Higher Education”, which made it possible to expand the use of new educational technologies: solving tasks in a test form, situational tasks, KVN, role-playing games, trainings, “case studies”, information technologies in Pedagogy: Information Educational Environment of the Medical University.
Innovative technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, study based on clinical situations is one of the modern methods of medical education, for example, CAD-CAM systems – CEREC 3//Sirona, prosthetics with metal-free structures based on zirconia, implantation Replace Nobel Care, Mis, Straumann, mini-implantation, bone grafting of the alveolar ridge Piezosurgery, periodontal and oral mucosa surgeries with the SiroLaser diode laser, ProZone ozonation in the treatment of dental diseases, Damon braces, Biostar mouthguard manufacturing technology, nanofilled filling, structural materials for filling and prosthetics (3M, Dentsply, Voco, Kerr ), Malifer endodontic systems: instruments, endomotors, apex locators, endoactivators, obturators.
